Our Congregation

Highwood Lutheran Church has been serving Calgary's northwest communities since 1956. Our present church structure dates from 1968.

Highwood Lutheran Church is a member of the Synod of Alberta and the Territories of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada. We are a vital, active, and friendly community of Christian people, dedicated to our Lord, and to the proclamation of the Gospel and Christian service in the communities of northwest Calgary.

If you do not yet have a church home in Calgary, and want to discover more about how God meets your spiritual needs today, we invite you to visit and worship with us. If you have any questions about our church or the Christian faith in general, our pastor would be pleased to visit and converse with you.

What the Lutheran Church Believes and Teaches

Luther's Seal
God calls us, through Word and Sacrament, to be disciples and to make disciples. Our discipleship is defined by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. Our mission is to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with people in Canada and around the world through the proclamation of the Word, the celebration of the Sacraments, and through service in Christ's name.   more...

Meet Our Pastor

Pastor Stephen Hall

Highwood has been blessed with many positive attributes. In my observation the strongest attribute has been caring supportive community. People here know each other, care about each other and support each other in prayer, service, and thoughtfulness. They uphold each other’s gifts. Here there is true community.

This community flows from a strong commitment to Biblical faith. The people of Highwood are committed to knowing and living a Biblical witness to the resurrecting power of God and the call to cross bearing witness. Bible studies and Biblical preaching are integral parts of the faith and life of the community.

Our motto “Where good friends meet their best Friend” combined with our 50th anniversary motto, “Called to be servants; Sent out in faith,” point us toward the ministry of the future, in which we seek to maintain a strong mutually supportive community under the grace, mercy and renewal of Jesus our Savior, while reaching out to neighbors with healing, comfort, inclusion, fellowship and hope, through the Way of Jesus of Nazareth, who lived and died as God’s son, that all may know and fearlessly live the love and grace of God in and for the world.

Together in the same grace,
Pastor Stephen A. Hall
